Delete your account in the app
- Open Rooky and sign in to the account you want to delete.
- Open Settings and scroll to Privacy.
- Tap Delete account.
- Read the confirmation and tap Delete account again to confirm.
After successful deletion, Rooky signs you out and erases your private keys and sign-in credentials on this device. Your account and linked records are removed from the live database immediately. This cannot be undone.
If deletion fails, check your connection and try again, or use the email option below. Signing out or uninstalling Rooky alone does not delete your account.
Request deletion without the app
- Email hello@rooky.app with the subject Rooky account deletion.
- Include the phone number registered to your Rooky account, with its country code, and say that you want your account and associated personal data deleted.
- Complete any account-ownership verification we request so we can protect your account from unauthorized deletion.
Do not email SMS verification codes, device passcodes, or private keys. We respond to email deletion requests within 45 calendar days of receipt, or sooner where required by applicable law. If a legally permitted extension is needed, we notify you within that initial period with the reason and the revised deadline. We confirm when your request is completed and explain any information that must be retained.
What data is deleted?
- Account and profile: your user identifier, phone number, phone-number hash, display name, and account timestamps.
- Device registrations: device identifiers and names, public signing and encryption keys, registration and revocation records, and push notification tokens.
- Contact relationships: links between your account and other Rooky accounts, including links other users have to your account.
- Verification history: requests you sent or received, encrypted request details, timestamps, statuses, signatures, and associated responses. These linked records are also removed from the other participant’s Rooky history.
- Authentication records: stored SMS login challenges, code hashes, and attempts associated with your phone number.
- On the device used to delete the account: private keys and locally stored sign-in credentials.
Your device’s address book is not deleted. Private keys on other devices and information another participant independently saved, such as screenshots, are not remotely erased.
What may be kept, and for how long?
There is no additional retention period for the account and linked records in our live database after successful deletion.
- Backup copies: any remaining copies expire within 30 days after live-data deletion. They are restricted to disaster recovery.
- Routine security and service logs: technical connection, request, and error records may remain for up to 30 days after deletion.
- Limited exceptions: relevant support correspondence, deletion-request records, or evidence needed to comply with a legal obligation, investigate a specific security or fraud incident, or resolve an existing dispute may be retained only for that purpose. The period depends on the applicable legal requirement or the duration of the incident or dispute; the data is deleted when that need ends. If an exception applies to your request, we explain the data, reason, and retention period or criteria in our response.
See our Privacy Policy for more information about how Rooky handles personal information.
